What KC deal means for Geno

  • Well according to ESPN SF just agreed to trade Alex Smith to KC on the 12th for a 2nd round pick (2013) and a conditional mid round pick next year.

So Geno will not be the number one overall pick. Options are still open for OAK, PHI, CLE, BUF, and ARI. We will get a better read on the situation after Matt Barkley's pro day since rumors are that ARI is Barkley > Geno. I think OAK has too many needs to take a QB right now, PHI has Vick/Foles for now, and CLE just took a QB last class. BUF and ARI are the biggest needs for QB and with ARI having to pick before BUF I believe both will take a QB. It all depends whether ARI takes Barkley or Geno.

  • I'd like to see him in Oakland or even Jacksonville would be nice. Get him in the good weather. Arizona's line is so awful, it doesn't matter who is throwing the ball. He's always on his back. At least in Oakland and/or Jacksonville, he has solid run games with McFadden (when healthy) and MJD.

  • I'm not totally sold on Alex Smith. Don't get me wrong, he was good this year but was mediocre at best any other year. Was it just the system he was in? DId Harbag utilize him better? I guess we will see with Andy Reid. I'm thinking he should fit his system decently at least.

All those teams were in the bottom five for rushing.

Greal: I'm not sold on Alex Smith either. If I was Andy Reid and the chiefs I would of taken Geno (slightly bias).

  • I still believe his best choice/option would be in Arizona. Great recieving core around him, improve the line and I think he can be successful.

  • I believe that Arizona Barkley thing is a smokescreen and they really want Geno. Just a gut feeling I suppose but I think Arians would prefer a qb with more athleticism

Not to mention he likes throwing deep, which is one of Barkley's main weaknesses.

  • Arizona taking Barkley over Geno would go down as one of the biggest draft mistakes ever.

Come on now, that is not nearly as bad (I guess a bit different though) as Matt Leinart.

However, I see your point about Geno. I think he is better than Barkley, and 2006 they did not pass over another QB who was better, just picked a horrible QB.

Barkley would be Matt Leinart v2.

  • Maybe, you never know about those USC QBs.

I think that Leinart had more talent surrounding him than Barkley (at USC), but I still dont think Barkley is a Franchise QB because he lacks the deep ball and in this age of the NFL that is pretty key with the focus on offense.

I agree, also they play in an indoor/outdoor stadium so the weather would only be a factor on the road. In all seriousness though if he's considered a fair weather QB than alot of teams may not be willing to gamble on that. As for Geno going to Oakland.....no thanks!

  • on the whole Geno vs Barkley ... when has ANY USC QB done well in the NFL ever? ... Palmer had one truely good year then had his knee taken out and has never come close to that again, Sanchez road the back of a very good defense, Leinart, well enough said, Matt Cassell who couldn't play a down in college was a "hidden gem" until he was exposed by not have the NE talent and coaches to make him look better, Sean Salisbury had a 10 year career with 6 different teams and didn't win crap until a CFL championship, Rodney Peete was a career backup albiet for 16 seasons, Pat Haden was a 3rd option after Jaws and another got hurt for the LA Rams, Bill Nelsen had only 2 good years in the pros and was a 1 time probowler but nothing more, Vince Evans claim to fame as a QB is being the only Chicago QB to score a perfect QB rating in one game, Todd Marinovich claim to fame is being selected before Brett Farve, Rob Johnson couldn't even beat out Brad Johnson in 2002 when Tampa won the super bowl (the only USC QB to be on a super bowl winning team btw) John David Booty is a backup with no real success

Alot of QBs but NO nfl success to hang their hats on

WVU QBs albeit not Superstar level of success has had more success with Jeff Hostler, Marc Bulger, and Oliver Luck then any USC QB

Major, White, Wyant, Wathall, Timarki all have the same amount of success has most USC QBS in the NFL
