Teams you want in the Big 12

  • With all the rumors out there lets assume Clemson and FSU are in and teams 13 and 14 are submitting applications. Who do you want as teams 13 and 14 and why?

1)I want ND first as it is the team that instantly puts the big 12 equal with the SEC. They have not been great on the field but, they are the biggest brand out there in college sports. It is not going to happen unfortunately in a full schedule football capacity.
    2) georgia tech- Clemson, GT and FSU would give the big 12 a footprint in three states that are big time when it comes to col football.
    3) as much as I would like to Renew rivalries with UM, VT and Pitt, it is very nice to ponder those three going down on the sinking ship they destroyed the big east in favor of. I will go with Maryland as they are a close rival who provides an important TV market and recruiting ground.

  • Well assuming Clemson an FSU are in, my vote is for VT an ND. VT because it would help with recruiting in Va, also I think WVU needs a marquee rivarly an its NOT Marshall! As for ND its a program that needs no introduction.

  • I would go with ND and VT.. however, I think VT may be SEC bound.. if that were the case, MD may not be so bad. Keep recruiting ties in that neck of the woods and there's a bit of a rivalry there too..

  • I would like to see Va Tech and Louisville.
Maryland would be nice but I think in the end they will go to the Big 10. I am not sure ND can coexist with Texas. ND has been running the Big East even as a non football member. They will not run the Big 12.

  • After FSU and Clemson...

    ND and UL

    VT is SEC bound.

  • I think ND to the Big 12 is only going to happen in a limited capacity. That is a win for the Big 12. If ND plays 4 to 5 big 12 schools a year, that is better than ND joining the big 10. We all hate ND but, they are big $$$$$.

As for VT to the SEC, I do not think they want them and i do not think they want any more teams. I think the SEC wants the Big 12 to take VT and Miami to go to 14 teams and have ND join the Big 12 as a partial member. It would solidify the 2 conferences as the top 2 and help in their partnership.

As long as vt, Miami, FSU and Clemson go to the Big 12, the SEC gains based on there being 4 major conferences instead of 5. The SEC does not need more teams to make more money. It needs fewer conferences out there to bid on.

  • For the money? ND and VT hands down.. Personally? ND and VT.. unconsciously? ND and VT... Ummm, ND and VT, yeah, that's it. these two alone COULD possibly bring close to 30 Million + dollars per team in revenue payout. The BIG 12 has to keep the SOS as high as possible and these two are the best available. P.S. Even though ND has been down, the SOS will go up with their addition.

I know this is a wish list, however, Notre Dame will not join a conference for Football unless they are told they will be shut out of a shot at a NC. At that point, I believe they will turn to the ACC. Just my opinion...

ACC is about to be torn apart. ND and the Big 12 have been in talks for awhile. Looks like Olympic Sports in 2014 and football joins for the 2016 season because that is when their NBC contract is up.

I believe the ACC will loose FSU and Clemson and then reform with ND as part of the merger of the remnants of the Big East. I heard the ND lean to ACC from an Interview on Bill King a couple days ago. You may be 100% correct. The one thing that is certain is ND brings the most money.

Beat me to it! Yep, re the post in the realignment thread about the SEC wanting to add VT without going beyond 14. Arkansas would be a good fit geographically and ND would bring their nationwide TV audience and fan base.

  • If flordia st and clemson our 11 & 12, then id like to see louisville, bc that would build a bridge from the big 12 to us. I agree with the users above that ND will NEVER join the big 12, nd will be in the big 10, As far as maryland, as long as we play them every yr to keep our brand in that state ill be happy, but they.wldnt fit in big 12. I want VT in the big 12, bc if they made divisions im sure wvu and vt would be together and the RIVALRY FOR THE BLACK DIMOND TROPHY WOULD.CONTINUE. And get more of wvs brand in VA, maybe help with recruiting. So my answer is 13 Virginia Tech and 14 Louisville.

  • Notre Dame will never join the BIG 10 has nothing to do with sports and everything to do with the research projects that go on with some of the schools within the conference especially (Northwestern) that go against the religious beliefs of Notre Dame.

ND will NEVER join the Big 10. You know why? Stem Cell Research. It was between the ACC and Big 12, and it looks like the ACC will be a thing of the past when the Big 12, SEC, and Big 10 get done with them.

  • Just for sheer selfish reasons Id like to see VT, Clemson, UNC, Wake but that's because I could see 4 WVU away games on about tank of gas a piece. Then again I havnt really compared Flight tickets to Austin to a full tank of gas in WV, might be about the same :). FSU is my first choice for our Florida connections and it's good for the conference recruitingwise,VT prob my second choice for some of the same reasons and they are closer to us for road games, GT gives the B12 Atlanta plus recruiting in GA( which is underrated IMO), again good for us and the entire conference, then prob Maryland for the tv markets and recruiting area, I like Clemson personally better than GT, Maryland and VT for that matter but just for building the B12 in the future they may better choices and Clemson does still bring a lot so I'm happy if we get them. I want NO part of Notre Dame as a partial anything, if it's a signed sealed deal where they play partial sports until their Tv deal is up in a couple years THEN full membership then by all means yes, otherwise no thank you that screams instability in the Big12 IMHO.

  • I despise ND, but I'm not stupid. Money, money, money. That would be a no-brainer. As reluctant as they are to join a conference, doing so could actually bring them back to football relevance.
I personally do not care for GT, market or no market. VT, MD, UL, Pitt would be great for regional rivalries, but there are multiple other reasons to say no to those teams.
VT seems the best of that lot, and ND, of course. I just threw up in my mouth a little. sick

  • Just as a question, ... Whats with the love for Louisville? How could they possibly be good for BGXII with other teams out there looming.. I guess if it came down to miami or UofL, I would go with UofL.. but that's about it.

AND on a personal note.. Remember how hard they tried to cut us? Even had their Senator try to stomp us down when we were moving to the BGXII? Yeah.. I've still got some major animosity towards them..

    Kokopelli

  • LVille is all about potential .. they have the facilities and money to turn into a good football program and be a great rivalary for WVU and a drives distance to the away game for most fans around WV

  • Notre Dame and Georgia Tech. Notre Dame will need until after 2015 to work out scheduling and TV contract issues in football. After that, they must be a football member ON THE SAME TERMS AS EVERY OTHER MEMBER. If we insist on this, depending on how the playoff agreement shakes out, they will agree, because they will have no choice. NO SPECIAL DEAL, except for the timing of their entry.

GT offers a lot to the the conference that the other schools don't- academics, recruiting for all members (Georgia produces a ton of good recruits), a spectacular TV footprint. This isn't a decision that should be made based on which schools people in WV can easily drive to. Sorry, but it is far too important for that to be the determining factor.

only problem i have with GT is it will be another Iowa St and 9 years out of 10 won't be competitive at all

If the other schools being discussed get in, that could actually be a good thing, couldn't it? The SEC didn't add Missouri because it is a football powerhouse.
