  • If i have left any out feel free to add....

  • It looks promising, but I sure hope this staff recruits some beef for the DL this year, or else we could be looking at an even worse depth situation along the DL in 2013.

2013 defensive linemen consists of: Rose, Clarke, Albury (hopefully) and?

  • The linebackers and secondary will be fine with depth but the line is terrible tho.

  • Hopefully there are more redshirt lineman that can help out that are not on the list. If not are there any JUCO lineman out there that are looking at wv?

I'll be doing a full breakdown of the 2012 Roster in the next couple weeks...... but this is a good look. It's certainly promising.

As someone pointed out in my 3-3-5 article, the year directly after one of the Top 10-15 seasons, the defense regressed immensely with all the new faces.

Next year, with a lot of the starters returning and tons of experience even for the backups, does it improve?

Just to note - Chestnut, Rose and Bruce are all redshirting, so they'll be "Freshmen" next year.

The answer to that is yes, unless we have the most unintelligent defense ever. I haven't said anything because I knew I'd get flamed if I did, but I've wondered occasionally this year how much a lack of smarts (intelligence) could be having on this defense. It's hard to watch those guys work so hard to get a third and long, and somebody blows their coverage, and boom, they have a first down !

OK, Demko, Feight, Rose, Clarke and Albury along the DL in 2013. Doesn't look like a ton of depth to me ... and that's assuming all five of those players continue to develop, stay healthy and stay eligible.

Where's the nose tackle? Where's the depth?

Sorry for sounding like a downer ... but with all the discussion about lack of DL depth this season, right now it looks like we'll be in the exact same boat in two years.

  • How much money are we throwing at JUCO lineman right now? Someone needs to get the check book out! :)

Wright will get the majority of the play at nose, much like he is this year. He and Clarke have been "starting" all year long and getting a ton of snaps.

As we've talked about before, they're each out of position one slot.

In an ideal world, next year's DL looks like so....

NG - Shaq Rowell continues to develop and live up to the potential he's shown since he was a 4* DT committed to Ohio State a few years back.

DT - With Rowell manning the middle, Jorge Wright can move over to his more natural position.

DE - With Wright moving up, Clarke can go back to the havoc-wreaking weakside end that he was born to be.

Again.... it all hinges on development at NG. Otherwise Wright plays out of position in the middle, Clarke out of position at the DT and an inexperienced player (Demko?) gets time at DE.

It doesn't sound like you think we'll sign one of the huge JUCO NT's we've been looking at this year. Or, do you not think any of them could step in next year and give us some quality play at NT ?

Rowell is going to have to step up next year...........or someone in the strongside end to allow Wright from getting double and triple teamed at the point of attack.

Like Chris said I'd love to see something like Rowell at NG, Wright at DT and Clarke at DE.

I know it's been asked before, but can anyone confirm how many years of eligibility Rowell has? Is he a two year player, meaning 2012 is his last year of eligibility?
