I think everyone is overreacting to the ACC being on life support, or dying. Even if they lose FSU and Klempsun, I think they stay together and rob some more big east teams. It will certainly make them considerably more irrelevant, and they may just focus on basketball, but I don't think the conference evaporates.

I think you summed it up well Bill. The ACC will not die without FSU & Clemson. They will be less relevant in football, but could be even stronger in bb by pilfering UCONN & Louisville, two other schools that seemingly put bb before fb.

That is what I mean by life support. Maybe I should have said irrelevant when it comes to MAJOR football, just the way the Big East has become. Poor choice of words on my part.

Bam - First of all I never claimed to be an "insider", just more informed than you. But I'm just going to put you on Ignore where you should have been all along. You've been nothing but a bad apple since you showed up. So with that said, Good bye!

Oldgoldandblue - Why might I claim this thread as my own? Hmm lets think about that, I started it, & have contributed more information in it than any one else. So yes I do claim it as my own.

MarineMounty - Not once have I taken something from a pay site & passed it on here for free. If I do bring something over from another pay site, I at a minimum make it VIP. Anything I have posted here are either from FREE forums, Twitter, or news stories. So I don't know what you are getting at with that, I don't steal from ANYONE.

I was trying to defuse a pissin' contest that the board does not need. The thread says realignment. Besides, I am old and admittedly have a weak stream. You would have an unfair advantage.

I was taught to honor and respect my elders. They are getting much harder to find these days.

  • Sorry - wasn't trying to call you out or imply that's not what you meant but I used your post as an example of what I've read and seen elsewhere. Seems many think the superconferences are coming very soon and that the ACC will fold up their tents and go home but I don't think that happens. (Even though I would love to watch them suffer for eternity).

No worries IrishBill, I didn't take your post that way. I do believe though that superconferences are in the future, maybe not immediate future but maybe 10-15 years down the road. I figure this new BCS setup will remain in place for 5 years or so then expand again out to 8 teams. Big 4 champs + 4 wild cards, once a few big names gets left out of the top 4 setup. Then, they'll tweak it again out to 16 just like all other levels of college football. The model is already in place at the lower levels.

  • WOW! there for a second I thought I was on a different site.. Not used to the bickering here.. Just to throw my opinion out there.. Yes, FSU and Clemson will be in the BIG 12 in 2013.. ND is considering a move, but they want to see if they will have a seat at the playoff table before deciding what to do.. IF, ND doesn't have a CLEAR CUT path to the playoffs they WILL join a conference, (most likely BIG12) with their Olympic sports until their NBC contract is up. Once the contract expires, ND will be a full member.

  • I agree, but only if the NCAA quits giving them a special status in respect to other schools.

ND won't got to the Big10 because of the TV contract .. they give up all rights completely to the big 10 network so they would have to share the spotlight ... ND wants a deal like what the Big12 offers if they are to join any conference because they keep their T3 rights (even tho the only game that would drop down to that level in fball would be none) but it makes it seem better but they can take the 24 or so mil that they would recieve from the Big12 but their own T3 rights which would prolly be another 5 to 6 mil a year but ND won't join a conference unless it absolutely 100% has too but their best option Money, Competively and all things rational is the Big12

No. ND disagrees with the Big 10 on a couple different research issues. Stem Cell research being a big one.

  • Stem cell research has to be a problem for ND. It might help the mental functioning of the NCAA
and they would revoke their special status.biggrin
To be serious, ND really should join the BE where there are plenty of Catholic schools aligned with the philosophy of life.

Well said. However some of ND past coaches could have used a stem cell transplant! hammer

  • I realize that there will be not much new in realignment until the NCAA meeting occurs, but gwin77 since you are taking ownership of this thread, get your butt in gear, and give us your thoughts. I looked forward to reading your posts and your insight into realignment, even when I didn't agree with every thing posted.

( I am joking, I am not calling you out for a high noon shootout)biggrin

Besides, there are enough orphans in the world, we can't have an orphaned thread running around! Can we?

There just hasn't been anything new to put out there. Trust me I want to keep this thread alive just as much as everyone else wants hear any new info, but there just doesn't seem to be anything new out there.

From what I can gather, everything is still a go as far as FSU/Clemson. ND is a pipedream but unless the BCS makes it impossible for them to participate as an Indy. As long as they have a way to slide in the backdoor, they will be happy as an Indy.

Our staff is becoming more vocal that neither CU or FSU is going in happen. I understand that someone could be trying to throw everyone off track. But, it is getting to point they will never be able to recover from thier sources mis-information if they are wrong.

I really dont think we will get all that much until we all know what we are looking at postseason wise, remember all of these moves are about money and where it will all be going, until some of the questions involving that money are answered there is no reason for things to kick into gear just yet. I look for the rumors and stories to pick back up when the meetings get back up to full steam.

Dabo Swinney made his comments the other day about going to the Big12 not making sense but just after that there was an article about how Clemson officials were still saying things to the effect that all avenues need to be explored(nowhere near those type comments). Right now today Dabo is 100% correct it doesn't but let some of those figures that are being tossed around be presented to the ACC schools after the post season is figured out and I have a feeling it will make a great deal of financial sense.

  • Here is a part of another article from sb nation:

Here's Clemson Board of Trustees chairman David Wilkins, via TigerNet:

"We are 1,000 percent in the ACC," Wilkins told TigerNet. "There are no offers, no discussions and we are concentrating on being the best we can be in the ACC. We are in the ACC, and we need to work together on making the ACC better."

"What we need to do is have the premier sports program in the league we are now in," Wilkins said. "And that is the ACC. That is where all of our effort and focus needs to be.":

Could all of the rumors been squashed by saying something like " there is nothing to these stories you are hearing, we are happy in the ACC are are NOT going anywhere"? I think so, but no such statements. More along the lines of right now we are focused on being a good ACC member (until we get the "official word" to get out of the ACC so the Big12 can legally invite us).

I understand the legal issues, but the insiders are becoming split and for me it going to be hard for the loser to regain thier status we me. I think the best move for them would be not to say anything.

  • SIAP:

Found this fairly interesting...Still just a proposition, but at least we get an idea of what the conferences are thinking. McMurphy also tweeted that he believes the metrics will serve to separate the top 5 conferences, which would then share playoff revenue evenly....I hate the dude, but he's created a fairly solid track record with this stuff.

Power conferences likely to receive most of playoff revenue - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

A college football playoff could generate $400 million annually. And how would it get distributed? Brett McMurphy learns one scenario would be based upon past performance, which would benefit the power conferences.

Gold...basically what Wilkins is saying is "we are 1000% committed to the ACC as long as they give us every demand we make!". So when the ACC doesn't and Clemson leaves for B12...Clemson can say "we tried everything we could to stay I the ACC and we just couldn't make it work."
