Shalala already commented. She said Miami wouldn't leave the academic powerhouse that is the ACC. Miami is a dumpster fire right now football wise, as they don't put any money into the product.

I can't agree more with you.. I have no idea (other than tv) why anyone would want to take the 'u' of Miami to a conference... "name brand"? We're in a conference with plenty of that now, AND looking at other schools with better name brand(s)..

the 'u' of Miami is a disaster waiting to happen.. poor choice to think of them..
I hope they keep their noses high and believe they are too good for BGXII Country.. JMO

  • I know most will disagree with me on this, but my preference in order is: FSU, VT, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Maryland. Now, I wouldn't mind to take 4 or even 5 of those mentioned, but only take the fifth with the assurance of ND being ALL IN. BTW, I'm looking at the benefit of the conference as a whole, not my personal likes and dislikes.

I thought this too my friend.. I think those that love FSU are just gonna' go to FSU.. nothing we can do about it. FSU can't take all the talent from FL., and we have a good presence in FL now..

I'd like to see FSU come, we may play them on a regular basis (every other year at FSU?) and keep a good footprint in FL.. I like the idea of FSU in BGXII just because of keeping recruiting on edge down there..

I agree an its not like they will get all the commits. Plus we will get kids at times that FSU didnt have room for.

  • Incoming Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby says he'd prefer that conferences hit the pause button on realignment.

"My opinion," he told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday, "is college athletics would be well served by some period of smooth water and not all of the angst and disorganization that goes with moves from one league to another."

That said, Florida State is churning the waters. Its president, Eric Barron, confirmed Monday that the school is weighing options, laying out the pros and cons of leaving the Atlantic Coast and specifying the Big 12 as a potential destination.

Bowlsby declined to address FSU specifically or whether the comments are likely to heighten expansion sentiment in the Big 12, but acknowledged, "Conference realignment will continue to be an issue and one we all have to be vigilant about."

In the Big 12, Bowlsby said, "I think the topic of expansion will be on every agenda going forward. But it's on every other conference's agenda going forward, too."

Texas athletics director DeLoss Dodds, a member of the league's four-man expansion committee, was close to dismissive of FSU's posturing in remarks to the Austin American-Statesman. "There's no traction" he said of the speculation.

"They're a long ways away," Dodds said of the Seminoles. "There've been no conversations between Florida State and the Big 12."

Bowlsby, athletics director at Stanford since 2006, will take over as the Big 12's commissioner around the middle of next month. He'll attend the league's spring meetings in Kansas City, Mo., starting May 30.

The league is wrapping up its first year with 10 member schools, downsized by the defections of Nebraska to the Big Ten and Colorado to the Pacific-12. Texas A&M and Missouri are headed out, as well, to the Southeastern Conference, but are being replaced by TCU and West Virginia. The question of whether to return to a 12-school alignment has bubbled, with speculation revolving around Louisville and, to some degree, Notre Dame.

"It's all about driving value for the member institutions," Bowlsby said. "There is a case to be made for optimal value being driven by the status quo, and there is a case to be made for some form of expansion. And I'm not prejudging or adopting either side of that right now."

Any takers on the Big 12 raising credit hours for their student athletes at the B12 meetings like the SEC did a couple years ago? That could be a tell tale sign of appeasing the academic argument that gets thrown around especially for an ACC school or two that may be interested no?

  • I heard something this morning on Bill King's radio show - guest was a guy with Athlon Sports. A caller mentioned that the Big 12 conference picks up the travel expenses for the schools. Does anyone know if this is true?

If so, that is a HUGE HUGE difference maker and only widens the gap between ACC payout and B12 payouts in my opinion - to the tune of $2.5mm plus per year. Not to mention, I know the Big 12 does not put the burden/risk of bowl game ticket sales on each school. Another hidden but real cost because everyone knows that these poor schools lose money on bowl game appearances (total f-ing BS if you ask me).

I think this thread is going to be getting a LOT busier in the near future.

As I said on Twitter, the news of this Big12/SEC deal could (and probably should) be the final shove pushing whatever teams from the ACC (and maybe Big East) into the Big 12's arms.

The only way a Big East team is coming is if we go to 14. FSU/Clemson/VT/GT/ND are way out front of any BEast team.

I'm just thankful we are in a spectators position and get to enjoy the continuing ineptitude of Pitt.

I know what you are trying to say but I think we are way more than spectators in all of this. Ollie has more than likely been a facilitator between the B12 & FSU/Clemson. Remember we aren't "in" the B12 until July 1, so he could be talking "unofficially" on behalf of the B12 since we aren't a voting member yet.

  • Ok does the Big 12 gut the ACC alone or does the SEC and BIG join in? Thats my biggest question now..

I believe the Big 10, Big 12 and SEC will all join in. I could see Boston College going to the Big 10 and them also getting Rutgers from the Big East. I also have to believe the SEC gets 2 unless they have their eye on someone else or a combination.

  • I tend to agree Celina, BC gets them in Boston(that might actually get folks to watch their games) and it MIGHT, maybe help them for finally pinning down ND, or I see ND fitting either with the BIG for obvious reasons or (JMO hold on), the PAC, with Larry Scott talking playing games over in China ect.. I see that being right up Notre Dames alleyand possibly BYU's and money for travel will not be a issue for them as they have money and could also sell it as a mission cause. The other school I see them going after is Maryland for the same reason the SEC took Mizzu by getting Baltimore and D.C. where Mizzu brought St Lou and KC. Maryland could actually work well for us too if it happens.

The more I think about it the more VT to the SEC makes sense, VT 1.gets them in VA and 2.SOME claim on that D.C. market which the Big12 already has if not a lil more already with us. We will be getting about the same type claim of the Atlanta market with Clemson IMO, they are closer to the ATL than VT is to DC (Feel like we are at an airport yet?)
I'd like to see GT in the Big12 too but could also see the BIGmaking a push for UVA and the yellow jackets. I know this for sure, it's goona git right after if not during the Big 12 meetings, I hope our guys are gonna be there or maybe in Charlotte NC to give us all some good pics of Swofford as it all unfolds huh.

I believe we are in a good position with ND if they move and I think they now have to. If they miss this boat the ship may not be back for them. The reason I believe we are in good position is the 3rd tier rights. Everyone else has sold their rights and ND could start their own channel and still feel like they are the big dog.

This is pure speculation so I don't mind if you stop reading at this point but if I'm not mistaken FSU, Clemson, and VT were lobbying for WVU to become members in the ACC when instead the ACC selected Syracuse and Pitt. I say that to say that there are probably good connections (business relationships) between the schools and now WVU is the middle man among the Big XII and FSU, etc. Can't wait for this to happen.

Big XII division with Clemson, FSU, WVU, and possibly some combo of GT, UMD, ND, VT would be one hell of a division. Oh yea, then on the other side would be OU, OSU, Texas, and TCU; I get goosebumps thinking about it.
