Looks like there might be a little in-house tug of war at FSU.

I know I shouldn't be like this, but I'm enjoying Swofford and the ACC starting to feel the vice tighten around their swelled heads. Karma, I guess... explode

Riniland, this reminds me of an arguement between academia, and atheletics in a movie called The Program. The professors were debating back and forth on an issue downplaying sports as opposed to higher learning. The football coach who couldnt get in a word, finnaly speaks up and says, "Yes, but when was the last time 80,000 screaming fans showed up to watch a kid do a chemestry experiment?"

thumbsup..to marquee only schools like ND, FSU, etc. who would benefit the Big XII financially and with product quality.

thumbdown..to non-marquee programs like 'ville, Cincy, etc. who would dilute the monies & product quality. Not that they are bad, they just don't carry national cashe'.

    Intentionally omitted academic standards.

  • Nothing more to add here.. Just wanted to say thanks for keeping the 'expansion' talk on one thread.. It's very nice to follow everyone's thought's on one thread.. cheers

Now, let's hope FSU gets on board.. and pray the little "u" of Miami keeps thinking they're too good for the BGXII..

  • To play Devil's advocate could FSU joining the Big XII hurt us in recruiting FL? Wouldn't it be more advantageous to sell FL recruits that we play in a superior conference in comparison to FSU or Miami? For the record I'd like to see FSU in the Big XII.

  • thumbsup Adding ONE really top level team like FSU or Klempsun and adding one "in the middle" like GT, MD, Ville. I hate Loserville but secretly that's part of what's fun about college football right? Selfishly I think the B12 has enough fire power and I'd like to give our EERS a fighting chance each year so going crazy with two really big football programs is not my first choice.

thumbdown Adding BYU. WAY too far away, zero cultural similarities and I don't want to hear about their holier than thou bullsh-t with a mediocre football and terrible basketball program. Haven't decided what I think about Miami. Hate them...would kinda like to renew that rivalry but like seeing them suffer in the ACC with all their scandal and thuggery.

I also like 12 teams, no more, no less.

That's a tough one there. I've read some are afraid we lose our inroads in FL by leaving the BE and USF, and by adding FSU to the Big XII, we could lose a selling point to recruits. I too am in favor of FSU and I think there are enough players available down there for us to get our share.

That makes good sense Bill. One reason I was thinking 2 high profile teams was that I'm assuming that the conference would be split and we probably wouldn't be with TX & OK, so I was kind of looking for two more "name" teams in our division that would equal those two schools.

    rlniland

  • I for one hate to see any of the Florida schools go to the big 12 we now have something else ti sell and its not like we were getting the very best talent out of there anyway but hey thats just my opinion.

    eerboy99

  • I think it would help us especially if the u is not invited and goes on probation...again.
They offer brand,tv market, and recruiting ground but our ( or any other conference) dont need that crap they keep gettin involved in.
Offering kids a trip home every other year IMO helps a lot when they are so far away from home.

  • I like the personal opinion too and agree but I should have worded it better, mean to ask who y'all think out of our conference members who votes up and who votes down on expanding, I have a gut feeling that Texas and OU will vote no, anyone else?

My guess is that TX & OK would vote no to avoid a conference championship game and make it easier to get to a NC game. The less prominate schools would probably vote yes to add "stability in numbers." In reality, I have no clue.

    rlniland

  • Texas is one of the ones pushing for FSU. Texad wasnt a fab of expanding just to expand witg Louisville and Cinci. The conference will be back to 12 with FSU/Clemson. Sounding like Miami will stay put. VT, Maryland and GT and the targets for 13 and 14. Two out of those three.

Only if they cant get the 4 desired schools from the ACC. Louisville could be 15 or 16 if we get the schools that are currently in talks.

  • I would like to see FSU, Clemson, Miami, and Loisville. You would have to very solid divisions that would equal the SEC in the quality of talent and competition. The road to a NC is not going to get any easier but I think College Football is moving to 4 super-conferences. If the teams above left the ACC they would no longer be considered a player in football. The best scenario would be Va Tech instead of Loisville.

    abell

  • Louisville is out as far as #11/12 consideration. I believe the Big 12 stops at 12 with FSU & Clemson. On the other hand, why not strike while the iron is hot & virtually kill off the ACC with some combo of GT/MD/VT, then Louisville could be in the mix for #14 or #16 with those teams.

Miami too much of a risk with pending sanctions. I believe, they are out of consideration.

  • FSU/ Clemson would prob be my first gets as well, they just seem easier pickins than VT ( remember both Clemson and FSU's dream move would be SEC and it aint gonna happen) and VT could be on the SEC radar or maybe even the BIG's plus the potential political mess if things fell right. I'd take a shot at them later with maybe GT or UL or maybe even Maryland for the tv market.either way when the first move is made the rats are gonna start to run out of the cave and changes will happen pretty quick IMO no matter where they all end up,

Shalala already commented. She said Miami wouldn't leave the academic powerhouse that is the ACC. Miami is a dumpster fire right now football wise, as they don't put any money into the product.

  • I just don't get it.
Isn't it called an "Athletic Conference"?
When they start calling it an "Academic Conference", then these people should start talking.

I thought this too my friend.. I think those that love FSU are just gonna' go to FSU.. nothing we can do about it. FSU can't take all the talent from FL., and we have a good presence in FL now..

I'd like to see FSU come, we may play them on a regular basis (every other year at FSU?) and keep a good footprint in FL.. I like the idea of FSU in BGXII just because of keeping recruiting on edge down there..
