I won't say I'm shocked as we have seen hundreds of times prospects fall in love on a visit but it sure is a 180 from what he said about PSU just a few short weeks ago.

  • know im gonna catch flack for this but I could care less...not gonna be hurt over it at all...if he picks wvu fine if not good luck to him

  • WVU will be fine, but I really wanted this kid on campus. I rarely get excited about in state kids, but Switzer is a player and I wanted him to stay home. I wish him the best regardless.

Agree, would been nice to enroll at WVU, but receiver is one position that we can recruit. Will not hurt WVU.
    Good Luck at UNC

  • I wish him well also, but as I was thinking about the rare, elite, athletes this state produces, seemingly we have snagged none of them. Curt Warner(PSU), Olympian and pro, Vernell "Bimbo" Coles(VT), Randy Moss, who hated the state of WV, Patrick Patterson (UK), I dont count O.J Mayo because he was only in WV for one year, Hornbuckle (I think was her name) was a star for (UT), Renea Montgomery (UCONN) (Thanks, MJScragg) and now Ryan Switzer. I'm not crying over spilled milk, but I would think every now and then, when the precious few come along, WVU should be the frontrunner. I've been a Mountaineer since I could walk and so was every kid I knew. It just seems odd that none of these guys felt the same way.

I can't speak for all of these players but when you talk about ladies basketball you can't ignore the pull that Tenn and UConn have had over the past 10+ years.

I understand when you talk about the pull of the elite programs, Moss ND,(FSU), Patterson(UK), and in '79 PSU for Warner. My point was when you look at a school like Texas, almost every kid is from there, but most of these kids never even considered staying in state. I'm just saying that growing up, I never knew a kid that wasnt gold and blue, and I find that out of all the people we are talking about, the odds are high that none of them grew up the same way.

  • There is just not enough in state talent to even care or form a real opinion on our success. Over the last 10 years, Patrick Patterson ( would have played for WVU if Huggins was here longer) was the only one WVU really missed out on. When you have to dig into girls basketball for examples of kids leaving the state and refer to Kurt Warner, how big of a problem can it be? RS is hardly a must have type of player and a toss-up as to how impactful he would be compared to our incomming freshman and other recruits on our board (we will have no shortage of playmakers on offense).

Josh Jenkins was as close to a must have WV talent in a oong time and we snagged him. We are batting .500 in the last 5 years.

Brandon Barrett and Noah Cotrell were huge failures but signed with WVU. It is great for state pride but, is it worth your time and effort to recruit heavily or worry if you miss out on one kid in a state that produces a top tier D1 talent every 4 to 5 years?
