  • With that recruiting base how does Mack keep his job? They should be in the BCS every year.

  • And now people can see why we are never going to recruit better than 20 or more teams every year. These teams will always be ranked higher and have more talent than we will. This is the entire reason I want coaches who are the best position coaches in the business, while being average to good recruiters. Having a great recruiter really doesnt make a difference in the overall scheme of things, we still are Not going to have better classes than Ok or TX, EVER. I have also repeatedly said we are NEVER going to have consistent top 15-20 classes so we better have coaches that can teach the 3* to perform like a 5*.

You're right that we'll never be able to recruit with a lot of schools no matter what, but you're dead wrong thinking that a position coach is going to turn a bunch of 3 stars into 5 stars. Position coaches teach fundamentals anybody can attend a couple coaching clinics and be able to teach technique. Where we need to separate ourselves is in finding kids who need time to develop and in our game scheming. Coordinators matter, head coaches matter but position coaches are interchangeable as far as what they're teaching the kids.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Position coaches are the lifeblood of a football team. You cant really believe that, really?

I'm not saying assistants aren't important. They're insanely important, but to act like teaching technique is some crazy hard task is absurd. Some assistants are helpful in gameplanning, most are helpful in recruiting. But teaching technique is the most basic part of their job, and you're portraying it like we're going to turn a few 3 stars into 5 stars because one coach knows how to teach footwork better than the other? The weight program and the scheme are infinitely more difficult of a task then teaching technique.

Sports always comes down to who does the fundamental things best. I do agree that many of the other aspects are important such as scheme and weights and everything else. However, if there isnt a good solid foundation of knowing what to do when the scheme doesnt work or when the guy across from you is faster or stronger, the team will flounder (see this years defense). We will be running the same scheme next year and I bet there are drastic improvements because you will see fundamental improvements by the CB's. I would argue that you could get rid of a HC in most instances and not see much impact. Heck if Stew would have hired a good OC he would have never been replaced.

We heard all year that guys didnt finish blocks, tackled poorly, took bad angles, missed holes, and on and on and on. These are all fundamentals that are taught by position coaches.

The answer is easy. It's 2 of the most talent-laden states in the nation. And they're both alpha males in their respective conferences in the sense that they get pretty much whomever they want, especially if the kids want to stay in-state.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional !

  • The key is great coaches that can recruit like crazy, I hope we have that this yr.
