Getting to know Chris Anderson and Anthony Krumpach....

  • As this forum's traffic continues to grow, I would bet the newbies would love to know about who runs the site on a day to day business. If possible, could both of you guys give us a little feedback by answering these questions...

    1. What year did you graduate from WVU?

    2. What made you decide to get into the business of running a site/message board/recruiting?

    3. How did you end up working for EERSports?

    4. What is your goal with this site and in general?

    5. Give us a rundown of what a typical day is with your line of work.

    6. What percentage of info comes from you guys vs the 24/7 network in recruiting?

    7. What's your favorite aspect of working with EERSports?

    8. Favorite WVU player football player that you have seen live?

    9. What steps do you take in trying to set up interviews with a guy like Huggins, Holgorsen, Luck, etc....????

    10. Favorite WVU player basketball player that you have seen live?

Never. Did not attend WVU. If I had, it would put my work here in a grey area.

Are you from WV? If so where and what high school? Where did you go to college?

    Thanks.

  • Chris, I could have never dreamed you had another full time job. With the amount of information posted here, the interviews, camps, and the fact that you usually respond to a posters question within the hour is jaw dropping. We all appreciate your tireless efforts, and especially your understanding boss and girlfriend. lol.

Makes it that much more impressive!
Surprised, Chris, that you didn't go to WVU. I didn't either- went to no college- just tech school- LPN. Course, I was married with a kid by the time I got out of high school! biggrin
It makes me like you that much more, to know you are also a WVU fan who didn't go to WVU. bow
Not that it would have been a bad thing if you had gone to WVU. Maybe you think that would make you less objective, but I actually don't mind my WVU coverage being a wee bit biased, as long as it's not delusional. lol

  • Add me to the impressed list. I always thought this was your only gig and you spent all day in getting info, writing, etc...

I would like to see that 1 million visits. Just curious, Which 24/7 school gets the most visits?

And thanks for replying man. As always, appreciate the hard work.

    Most subscribers: Alabama.

Most Visits: Ohio State and Michigan State battle back and forth.

Last month only ten sites passed the 1 million mark - Ohio State (5.9 million!), Michigan State (5.3), Alabama (4.6), South Carolina (3.4), Maryland (2.5), Auburn (2.4), Penn State (1.9), Texas (1.6), Notre Dame (1.3) and USC (1.3).

I'm shocked to see Maryland in the middle of those big time schools. I didnt realize they had that kind of support when the only game they ever sell out is against us.

I've got a feeling there is very little time for actually playing hoops.

  • 1. What year did you graduate from WVU?

Like Chris I didn't go to WVU. My connection to WVU is through my parents who are both graduates from there.

    2. What made you decide to get into the business of running a site/message board/recruiting?

I'm not sure how I got into the whole recruiting thing, it just sort of happened at a few other sites. I started my own recruiting blog about years back and did some coverage with another site (which some of us became friends at, looking at you wvu2003, stud, parkersburg and pabst). I was able to make some nice connections not only within the recruiting community but also those in Morgantown.

    3. How did you end up working for EERSports?

Kind of like Chris (just earlier) I started putting information together on a new site called eersports a little over 3 years ago. I wasn't the first writer but we grew as a site when I started and when Chris took the reigns he has taken us to a whole different level.

    4. What is your goal with this site and in general?

To be provide the best content on WVU athletics. I'd also like to see EerSports turn into a community of friends rather than just a pay to get info type stop.

    5. Give us a rundown of what a typical day is with your line of work.

I also have a 9-5 but I'm not as involved as I once was but still try to find time to make my way here.

    6. What percentage of info comes from you guys vs the 24/7 network in recruiting?

During my time 24/7 was growing as a site so I'd say my info was 95% mine, 5% 24/7. Like Chris I'd get help from other guys from time to time but that aspect has really improved and added to the site.

    7. What's your favorite aspect of working with EERSports?

Other than getting to know the prospects I believe getting the opportunity to report the news rather than just read about it is the coolest part of the gig.

    8. Favorite WVU player football player that you have seen live?

    Robert Walker.

    9. What steps do you take in trying to set up interviews with a guy like Huggins, Holgorsen, Luck, etc....????

Got to go through the SID for most interviews.

    10. Favorite WVU player basketball player that you have seen live?

I have never seen a WVU basketball live. Ask me later this year........I'm looking to change that.

Born in South Charleston at good ol' Thomas Memorial Hospital.

My dad's work moved us several times, so I never went to school in WV. I have family in South Charleston, Bluefield, Princeton, Amma, Morgantown, Beckley and a couple other places. Once upon a time had family in Huntington and Hacker Valley, but no longer.

My kinfolk pride themselves on living everywhere in WV possible, lol

College - after being recruited by John Beilein to UofR, I seriously thought my dream had come true when he left for WVU. Obviously, with me being a borderline talent at Richmond, I was not on the radar for WVU. Long story short, I ended up at Hampden Sydney College, a DIII school in Farmville, Virginia. They were a powerhouse. We went to the DIII Final Four my freshman year.

Thanks for the response. I assumed you had to have some type of WV connection to be interested in this job covering WVU..

I hope this site grows to the point it will be your only full time job. I've been here for less than a year but very impressed with the content and will be here for years to come unless you leave and the quality suffers.

Are you still in Virginia or did you move to WV?

  • I can only say that you both do a great service for us WVU fanatics
    Thanks

  • Anthony, just like Chris, we thank you for all your hard work in addition to your 9-5, and judging by your profile pick, you have a second 9-5. I also like your view point on a civilized sense of community to self- govern this site and share intelligent, well thought out information with each other.

Those guys came from the Scout site several month ago. Jeff Ermann is one of the best in the business. Wherever he goes, the MD fans follow.

Same thing with UofL and Ohio State guys. Both of those folks came from Scout so it's easy to see why they have taken off. At one time, the Scout OSU site was the busiest board around. After the switch, it's now on here. I do have to say though that the numbers Chris mentioned is quite amazing.

I don't see that with the WVU site but at one time, it used to be this way with WV Rivals with Vernon/Kevin. Then Kevin started up BGN many, many years ago and at the time, it was slow. Imagine 50 people on during the day and about 20ish during the night. Eventually the site took over over time.

I see a lot of similarities of EERSports with those above. It started out with a few and has gradually been gaining more people. Plus word of mouth from posters on here has helped this community develop.

  • Wow, that is crazy impressive! I barely have time to read all the info while having a 9-5, which BTW, is the reason I love Morning Mashup. I simply can't imagine aquiring the info, turning it into print, and responding to all questions. Red Bull or Monster?

  • Just want to say a huge thank you to Chris and Anthony for making this the best website for WVU sports and recruiting. Its nice to not go somewhere that there is no bashing and just endless information on what is going on in Morgantown. I know its not the most glamorous job but many people greatly appreciate what you do whether its the fans reading these sites or the recruits and players you guys talk to.
