Guy on tBB said that Saban mentioned a game with WVU in the Georgia Dome in 2014 at a caravan.
That would be huge!!! I say bring it on!!!
Saban said it would be the season opener for 2014. First college football game of the season? I'm not sure.
I had heard some rumblings of this double months back. It would be awesome , possibility our rookie QB first start!

All three out-of-conference games are already booked for 2014 (Towson State, East Carolina and Maryland). However, I hope if this is true WVU would be willing to buy out Towson State to make it happen - and if the guarantees from the promoter (Falcons?) are good enough, that should be a no-brainer.
Same here. I had heard the talk of a possible 2014/15 season opener against Alabama in the Georgia Dome.
Like so many other rumors you wait to see if anything else happens and since then I had not heard a word about it till seeing this thread.

AK, if this game takes place we should meet for a pre-game meal. This sounds to good to be true.

Problem is, we didn’t know what we were doing either. But when we didn’t know what we were doing, we were pretty good at it…..
shoot you know it..........I need to make my way down to more events this fall anyway.
I'd rather play em in T-town but very cool none the less! Hey if they wanna start the year off with a loss then hey...

East Carolina or townson could easily get axed. Payout will be much higher than a boring home game matchup. Thank you OL.
It would be Towson, I'd think. ECU is part of a long term multi-game contract, whereas Towson is a one-time buy game.
Maybe push the game back a year with ECU?
Casazza says its a done deal the juggling is finished & one 2014 opponent has disappeared.
I remember the 2nd game of the year at the Horseshoe in 1987 (I was there) , the kickoff classic in 1994 vs Nebraska, and the opener in 1998 at home with OSU. The common denominators in all three were, the hype lasted the entire summer, we got our butts handed to us in each, we seemed to be awe struck for the first half in all three games, and in the second half we seemed to hold our own. Now, some might say the other teams lost intensity once the game was in hand, but I contend (although I was fully convinced we would win all three), that this time we will not be intimidated by the national stage as we were in the past. Signed,.... The Eternal Optimist.
I'm thinking the difference in '14 versus these prior hyped games is that WVU should be a very good/deep team. Now do I think WVU will beat Alabama? Probably not, Bama is LOADED with talent and they have a pretty good staff themselves. Now do I think WVU has a shot? Oh heck yeah I do.
Now I can't speak about the '87 game because I don't remember it.........but in '94 Nebraska was the best team in the country and WVU lost a ton of seniors off the '93 undefeated team. I was really looking forward to that game but knew (even at a young age) that is was going to be a very difficult one. '98 was pretty much Don Nehlen football 101. Beat the teams you should.........win more of the games against teams that you are even with........most likely lose to the better teams.
Now no matter what happens (win or lose) this is a great opportunity to put WVU's brand on the national stage against the best football program in America.
Wouldn't it be his second year? Or is my mind not working right yet?
I think you're right, unless both of our minds aren't working. If it's Ford, he would be a redshirt Sophmore assuming he does redshirt this year.
That's right, brain fart by me.
Beating Bama would be a great start to the 2014 season!! GO Eers!!!
