WVU Stedman Bailey checked in at 5102, 193 lbs w/ big hands 9 7/8 and long arms 32 6/8.
Not bad at all!
I also really think he'll surprise people when he runs his 40. He's faster than a lot of people think.
For the record he's 5 inches shorter than Madsen, yet his arm length is more than 2 inches longer. That's more about Madsen than Stedman, but helps illustrate the issue with Madsen's wingspan.
How is arm length measured?
WVU program measureable's were pretty much accurate. That was not always the case. I remember when Major Harris got to NFL workouts, he was 6' 222 with a 5 flat 40.....and dropped all the way to the 12th round.
Top of the shoulder to tip of the longest finger?
Not faster than what Vegas thinks...They have the over/under at a 4.39. I think he is deceptively fast but not that fast
Hopefully his stock will rise a lot after his forty time and vertical jump.
I too believe he will surprise a lot of people and improve his draft stock.
I remember in one of Holgs' press conferences he said Madsen looked like T-Rex out there on the field with his short arms. I thought that was pretty funny.
Major gained weight and lost some speed before the combine or something if I remember right?
No disrespect to Bailey (I love him as a possession receiver), but if that is the Vegas line...it may be a good investment to put some cash on the over? Just don't see him clocking faster than a 4.39. Hope I am wrong for his checkbook's sake.
You also got to realize until recently these combines and workouts weren't as stringent as they are now. Some guys would show up to the combine with no training in running the 40. Players now get taught how to run good 40s, technique and a good start can be the difference between a 5.0 and a 4.5.
I see some people mentioning tweets that tavon ran an unoffical 4.2 40 today practicing at the combine .... Anyone who uses twitter see these tweets?
Yes....he was way out of shape. His mom wanted him to go to the "League". He must have had some street agent who certainly did not help him.
I know this has to be wrong, & I was like 11 at the time but I seem to remember a story that he showed up to a workout & ran in jeans.
No, Tavon claimed he's ran a couple in the 4.2s. I wouldn't expect that on the laser timed.
What has to be wrong....must admit I have no idea who is agent was....but I was 40 at the time and remember his NFL weight and speed was shocking....222 and 5flat. Everybody in the world say his mother on national tv saying she wanted him to go to the League
He was told by his agent that he would go early in the draft but his being far out of shape did lead to the 12th round. Plus the fact that the NFL had no idea what to do with a qb like Major....at that time.
Not sure what Stedman can do at the combine to raise his stock. I don't think he will impress scouts etc like Tavon has the chance to do.
One thing about Stedman is his hand size, which leads him to catch about everything in his path, but not sure that shows up at the combine. Geno seems to be the only player that has the proper size for his position. Madison has really small arms, Stedman is too short for a top receiver, and Tavon is just too short and too small.
