He was just on SC and was talking about Genos film. He said he shouldn't be taken in the first round, but in the second or third. He said the same about Barkley, I guess no ones suppose to take a qb in the first round. I hope geno is taken top 10 but maybe it would be better for him pressure wise to be taken later on? What's everyone think?
This is the same guy that BLASTED Cam and RGIII and I think so far they have turned out ok ... everyone , scouts, execs, all sports pundits say none of the QBs are true first rounders but QBs are always over valued because its a QB driven league ... as the one phrase I heard during the combine that explains this QB Class best of all "Its the QB class of wow, what..?"
Hodge suffered too many concussions in his day to properly evaluate NFL or college talent lol
My observation(s)... as fans, we tend to become overly sensitive towards comments regarding one of our own...tend to get too overjoyed with positive and tend to get upset with critical comments.
So I sort of file MH's comments in their appropriate file. Geno is not the first QB he has been critical of (his job as an analyst), and certainly will not be the last. Sometimes he is right, and sometimes he misses just like every other talking head. If it is any consolation, he spent forever just ripping Tebow apart.
If I am honest with myself, MH could very well end up being correct (as I think Geno does have a number of things he will need to improve upon). However, I hope he ends up being wrong.

Well you do have to take the opinion of a great former NFL QB seriously. I mean they know the position right? Wait what position did he play? Running back thats right. What would he know about evaluating a QB. He has never been a talent scout or a QB. I would not take his opinion very seriously. Listen to the former great QBs and NFL GMs on the NFL network. They seem to all have good things to say about Geno and I value their opinion. He will go in the top 10 to either Oakland or Arizona. I would NOT follow ESPN coverage of the NFL draft at all.
Hey Merrill, thanks for you opinion. stick to oversized suits and jumbo double windsors. #getatailor.

Im also hoping he goes to Oakland or Arizona
I love Merrill Hodge but he is, for lack of a better term, an idiot. Football hits took all the good brain cells...
Arizona would be ideal, good receivers and a solid back in Beanie Wells (if healthy). Oakland will draft the fastest guy at the combine like they do every year...
this isn't the same oakland front office so that can't be said anymore
I hope it's not AZ, it wouldn't be a good fit. Their O-line is terrible, they have a marginal running game. Plus he would have to face 2 of the top 5 defenses in SF & Seattle four times a year. Both teams thrive at getting pressure on the QB & we all know that is when Geno is at his worst.

I don't think he is a top 10 pick but depending on a teams situation I think is 1st round worthy.

Wells is gone or will be during Free Agency. But they have Ryan Williams coming back from injury. I would like to see Geno throwing to Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd for the next few years.
I really think Hoge is envious of these players. I think he has to say these controversial things because if he didn't ESPN would quickly realize that there is no reason to keep him on their payroll!
Rams aren't to shabby either! They lead the league in sacks last year. So Geno will have 6 games against top pass rushing defenses. Rams will have a top 10 defense this year.
Oh I agree, I forgot to mention them. The NFC West is becoming the new Black & Blue division that no one wants to face because the opponents get beat up. Plus the offenses are putting big crooked numbers on the scoreboard.
Geno's only issue is foot work mechanics. Which can be coached up. Just depends on how fast he can correct that. I think Geno ends up in Jacksonville.
That's what I don't understand. I've read/heard a lot about Geno's issues with his footwork. How is this still a problem? I would have thought that our coaches would have straightened him out on that. Yet, I hear/read scouts talk about it, and that is has improved some since the end of the season.
IMO...Geno's biggest issue in the NFL is how he reacts to pressure i.e.(his leadership skills). I think he has all the physical tools, and if he needs some refinement, that can be fixed.
I agree with you br. He does have all the skills. Even the NFL thinks the same. If he gets his footwork down (so the experts say) he will become an elite QB in the league. With his footwork issues, and Q Spain's stance issues I'm just wondering how good Bedenbough and Spivatal really were. For them not to fix the issues. But, that is off topic for this thread.
Getting back to the topic, if Geno can hold up to the pass rush he will see. I think he will have a nice NFL career.
