Big 12 expansion (assumptions)

  • With RU and UMD off to the B1G, the Big12 has no choice but to respond and expand to 12 or even 14.

Assuming we start with just 12: my first two choices are FSU and Clemson, my next combo is: FSU and GT

But, if we decide to go to 14, I would want to see: FSU, Clemson, GT and UNC. I find it hard to believe UNC is going to stay in the ACC with losses like FSU, UMD, Clemson and potentially GT.

This is just me making talking points but I wouldn't be surprised if the Big12 decided to jump from 10 to 14 right now.

  • fsu and clemson should be the top choices, this would make the conference even bigger and that much better.

  • I wouldn't like to see UNC in the Big XII my friend. There are many reasons behind that logic that everybody should know about. The teams that I would like to see in the Big XII would be Clemson, GT, FSU, and VPI. Those are the schools that I would like to see in the Big XII in the future of our conference.

I know what you are saying but UNC blocking our admission into the ACC last year (if they did) is the best thing to ever happen to us. The future for the Big12 would be extremely bright if we added UNC. From a basketball standpoint, KU and UNC would be incredible. UNC brings along the academics with the institution as well.

I'm over UNC blocking us to the ACC. But, it's silly for us to sit here and say that UNC wouldn't be a good addition for the Big12. VT would be good too. Either one would add value to the conference.

I will be extremely upset if the Big12 now lets the SEC to come in and take UNC and VT without the Big12 getting one of them alongside FSU, Clemson and GT.

We need two of the three: UNC, VT or GT or else the SEC will take 2 of them and we'll be stuck with the leftover.

  • ChipperWestB,
I think you also have to look at value as well. Do y'all think UNC brings value into the Big XII as far as football, or basketball? In my opinion, I think UNC doesn't bring that much value into the Big XII as far as football. However, I think basketball is a different story. The better value would to bring in VPI for football. It would also be a lot of fun to see Beamer back in Mo-town. Wow just imagine the battery throwing and such. We all need to look at the value for teams that we bring in as far as both football, and basketball.

UNC's snobbery toward WVU goes back a lot farther than last year.

  • No way in hell does VT end up in the Big 12. They will be in the SEC.

I hate Louisville but would like to see them get in to give us a closer game and somewhat of a rivalry.

  • The most likely scenario if we added four teams they would be Louisville, FSU, Clemson and either BYU or Cincy. Just a hunch.

  • whatever happens, isnt it just so nice we can watch it and for the most part not care. Things worked out great for us, and now pitt could find themselves in yet another dumpster fire

thats a good day any day

  • The one thing that is important is our TV contract. We get more money per member if we expand with high quality football teams. Basketball is an after thought. If we add football teams that don't add value to football we lose money per member.

  • How about Virginia? Prob not in picture, cool rival

UVA wouldn't join the Big 12. The would either join the Big 10 or stay with a dying ACC. They are just as snobby as UNC when it comes down to it.

  • Theres alot of people from Louisville on twitter and over on their board hoping they go to the ACC. Why would anyone at this point want to go from one conference that just got picked apart to a different conference that is in the process of getting picked apart.

Louisville hopping in w/ the ACC makes sense. Most profitable basketball program at the moment. Arguably the finest arena in college bball. A couple titles on their resume, and a rabid fanbase.

They're going somewhere, because I honestly feel they're too good for the Big East.

Not sure why people think the B12 has to respond they don't. They can stand pat and be left behind. The B12 is loaded with arrogant leadership with pour vision and is why it has had problems. The leadership is still in place, with Texas leading the way

  • I know it is unlikely to happen, However as much as I don't like them I would love to see VT and UVA come to the BIGXII along with FSU and either Clemson or GT. I think that would be great for WVU from all aspects of recruiting (tidewater) and FL as well as the dc markets MD and others

  • Which team will be taken will be determined by the TV market the Big 12 can gain access to.
FSU and Louisville would be the most likely prospects in that regard.

I was taught to honor and respect my elders. They are getting much harder to find these days.

  • This is the perfect time to expand.. the ACC is dying and we (the Big12) need to cash in on this. We shouldn't rush but at the same time we can't be caught empty handed either.

Exactly, the noles and the tigers should move immediately, then get a couple of teams like Louisville/Pitt and the big 12 is powerful.
