Really 3 hrs & no one has commentted on this? This is a fairly big deal, an extra 5 million per team/season thru 2025.

Im curious if this will actually put a stop or at least slow down further expansion. I noticed a few comments that mentioned "expansion" would somehow be worked into the contract language. Im personally fine and would prefer ataying at 10 teams....unless of course they could land FSU, ND, or another big name. I really dont care to see adding Louisville or a BYU

This is my understanding as well. The ACC deal tops out at $15 million per team and that includes Tier 1,2 and 3. Our new Big 12 deal does not include Tier 3 or a conference championship game. The Big 12 deal allows for expansion so ACC teams could be assured of $25 million a year, a 75% increase.

This is great news of course but dont think for one second that the other conferences are going to sit idly by and watch this happen....everyone else will re-negotiate their deals over the next couple years and the money grab will be ON. Particularly the Ess Eee Seeee.

I would think the new ACC deal will be more than that. Just can't imagine all three tiers coming up only to that guesstimate.

i remember reading that a while back but i just keep thinking the TV sets that the ACC has to offer now can bring the number up higher.

if the ACC can't muster around 17-18 million, which includes all 3 Tiers, then they are prime for the taking. FSU and Clemson to the Big 12 could make 23 million annually and thats ONLY Tier 1 and Tier 2 package. Once they open Tier 3, we are talking the possibility of making close to 27-30 million. (rough estimate based off Kansas Tier 3 and Texas Tier 3. If I recall correctly, Oklahoma is working on their Tier 3 now)

Here's the best explanation I've seen: he starts out discussing why some like the 10 team format. One thing not mentioned is that the schools will sign over their rights until 2025, so nobody's leaving, and the conference becomes one of the most stable in the country.

Everyone likes the 10-team format they have now. However, as I stated in the ACC thread, they will expand if the right teams are receptive to their inquiries. There is no doubt they will reach out to Florida State, Miami, GA Tech, Clemson, NC State, VA Tech, and Arkansas, and possibly Pitt & Maryland (along w/ Louisville, whom they've already had discussions with). If the right combination of teams are interested, they'll make a move. If not, they'll stand pat with 10.
The Big XII made a number of strategically brilliant moves w/ this latest contract. If they sign at least 2 additional teams (there are restrictions on whom), there is an automatic escalator in the contract that will raise the total payout by $2.05M per team (this based on the added conference championship game). And, they negotiated an opt out clause that will allow them out of the deal to take it to market if they expand to 12 or further, with ESPN/ABC having the right of first refusal on the contract. Once the language of the contract makes its way back to the ACC, I think there will be some nervous presidents & a nervous commissioner, b/c the Big XII essentially just got a license to hunt, with guaranteed ammo.
And, what's better, the ABC/ESPN/Fox contracts the Big XII has are only for Tier 1 & Tier 2 broadcasts. So, teams are free to shop their Tier 3 rights. So, just like Texas is netting $10M/season, and KU is netting $8M/season from Tier 3, Florida State, Clemson, etc will have the ability to make $20M + millions more on Tier 3, which would put them above the highest paid SEC teams.
