Williams a State Champ

TThere weren't many future Mountaineers in action this weekend, but one of them came out a state champ.

Williams ran for 117 yards and 2 TDs in the state title game.

Running back commit Zaire Williams and his Timber Creek (NJ) squad defeated Kingsway (NJ) in the state finals, 57-27. Williams put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter on a 21-yard touchdown run that began with him hurdling a would-be tackler near the line of scrimmage. He finished the game with 17 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns, putting him over 1,000 yards on the season.

Just down the road, offensive lineman Marcell Lazard and his Bloomfield (NJ) team were not quite as fortunate. Leading 13-6 with less than a minute left, Montclair (NJ) converted multiple 3rd and 4th and longs to tie the score and send the game to overtime. A fumble by the quarterback in the second OT, opened things up for Montclair (NJ) to kick an easy field goal and win the game, 16-13.

In Florida, Immokalee (FL) won their state semifinal by defeating Jackson (FL), 29-21. The Indians were without West Virginia commit Jacky Marcellus, who was sidelined with a knee injury. In fact, Marcellus had surgery on the knee on Thursday, removing any possibility that he will play in the state title game against Godby (FL) next weekend.
