Eastern Christian Academy (MD) running back Wendell Smallwood has committed to West Virginia over his other finalist, Rutgers, EerSports learned earlier today.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound back was originally scheduled to announce yesterday, but waited until today after he spoke with the Mountaineers' coaching staff.
The three-star back admitted, however, that he has been considering this decision for a long time, telling EerSports he was close to committing while on his visit at the end of July.
When we caught up with him again this week, he said that current - and now future - teammate Daikiel Shorts had been recruiting him hard and his overtures were working.
This is West Virginia's 13th commitment of the 2013 class and the staff is now done recruiting running backs.
