West Virginia looks to finish their non-conference schedule strong as they play at home today against an impressive looking Eastern Kentucky (10-2) squad. the game will be televised on ROOT Sports and ESPN3.com with a 4:00PM scheduled tip time.
Here are three keys to victory for WVU.
1. Defend the Perimeter - The Colonels are lead by a dynamic pair of guards in junior Glenn Cosey (16.1 points per game) and senior Mike DiNunno (14.4). They both shoot well from beyond the arc (42.3% and 43.8%, respectively) but also have the quickness to get into the lanes. If the Mountaineers can shut these two down, there aren't a whole lot of scoring options left for EKU.
2. Dominate the Glass - Eastern Kentucky is a smaller team with no player averaging over 4.6 rebounds a game. In fact, the Colonels rank 342nd in the country with 27.2 rebounds per game. WVU averages 38.9 rebounds per night and will need to greatly outrebound EKU to be successful, especially on the offensive end.
3. Get Deniz on Track - With no true big bodies down in the post (only bench player Jeff Johnson weighs more than 225 pounds), the Mountaineers should be able to feed the ball down to Deniz Kilicli and let him get his offensive game back on track. If he goes toward the basket with his moves, he should be able to dominate today and steady himself before conference play.
