West Virginia University has reportedly accepted an invite to the Pinstripe Bowl to take on Syracuse of the Big East Conference.
After finishing 7-5, the Mountaineers were rumored to be a choice between the Holiday Bowl against a Pac 12 Conference opponent or the Pinstripe versus a former Big East Conference foe.
In the end, thanks in large part due to Northern Illinois sneaking into the BCS and bumping Oklahoma out of an at-large spot, West Virginia fell to the three-year old bowl in the Big Apple.
Earlier in the day, Syracuse announced that they had accepted an invitation to the Pinstripe Bowl, setting up the 60th battle for the Schwartzwalder Trophy, named after Ben Schwartzwalder, a former West Virginia player and Syracuse head coach.
Each team will receive approximately $2 million to participate in the game.
The game will be played on December 29th on ESPN at 3:15 PM.
