Three Keys and Game Thread - TTU

Gray is tied for second on the team with 9.3 points.

West Virginia (9-11, 2-5) is at a critical point in their season, desperately needing to round up some wins in order to make it into some form of the postseason. A stretch of winnable games begins today, as WVU travels to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech (9-9, 2-5). The Red Raiders - like the Mountaineers - have lost five of their last six games and are in need of a boost.

The game is set for a 1:30PM ET tip and can be seen on ESPN3 and WatchESPN apps.

Here are three keys to a Mountaineer victory today.

1. Wreak Some Havoc - The Mountaineers have proven to be at their best when they pressure the ball, jump passing lanes and force turnovers. That hard-nosed defense has led to easy baskets which are crucial for a team that struggles to scores from the field. Versus Kansas, West Virginia came storming back in the latter part of the first half. Not surprisingly, they had already reached double figures in points off of turnovers. They'll want to do that again today.

2. Defend The Post - Somehow, someway, Texas Tech is an even worse jump shooting team than West Virginia. The Red Raiders make an abysmal 26.5% of their three point shots (WVU shoots 29.1%). However, they are very efficient near the basket, with three big men shooting over 50% from the floor in Jordan Tolbert (9.0 points, 52.1%), Dejan Kravic (9.3, 53.2%) and Jaye Crockett (12.7, 52.8%)

3. Win The Bench - Another thing the Mountaineers did well this past Saturday was score off the bench, led by Aaric Murray's 17 points. Crockett is Texas Tech's leading scorer, but he does not start. If WVU can still manage to outdo the Red Raiders' bench, it will be a big boost for Bob Huggins and company today.
