After a heartbreaking loss at home to Kansas State, West Virginia (8-7, 1-2) makes their first ever trip to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State (11-4, 1-1). Ranked in the top ten in both scoring and rebounding, the Cyclones have proven themselves to be a formidable team this season. Not only that, but they are currently 10-0 at home. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers have only had three true road games thus far, emerging with a 1-2 record.
Tonight's game is set for a 9:00PM ET tipoff and will be shown live nationally on ESPN2 and all WatchESPN apps.
Here are three keys to a Mountaineer victory tonight.
1. Get to the free throw line and make them - In Iowa State's four losses, the opposing team has shot an average of 29 free throws. The Cyclones are an uptempo team, but getting into the lane, drawing fouls and slowing down the game will help West Virginia's chances. Of course, making said free throws is important, too.
2. Get out on defense and put a hand up - The Cyclones love to shoot threes. All of them do. Six players on Iowa State's squad have attempted 27 or more threes this season. Tyrus McGee is the most lethal, jacking up over six attempts per game and knocking down 48.4% of them.
3. Get a body on someone and grab the rebound - Much like their shooting, everyone gets involved on the glass for Iowa State. Seven members of their eight-man rotation average over three rebounds per game. As a team, they are ranked seventh in the country with 42.6 rebounds a night. Melvin Ejim leads the way, averaging 9.3 boards to go with his 10.8 points.
