Outside the Crystal Ball

Bryant, a five-star prospect, has been Crystal Ball'd to WVU.

On a regular basis, I share my reasoning behind some of my recent Crystal Ball predictions, but what about those picks made by others in the industry?

In our never-ending effort to bring you the most complete coverage possible, I reached out to my fellow analysts/writers who made pro-West Virginia picks to find out their reasoning. Here are three recruits, who chose them and why....

RECRUIT: Thomas Bryant, PF, Huntington Prep (WV)
EXPERT: Brian Flinn, Analyst for Future150. Visit his site HERE.
DATE PICKED: November 6, 2013
REASONING: "Thomas Bryant is a native of upstate New York, prompting many to think that he is a lock to Syracuse. Now that he moved to Huntington Prep things have seemingly changed. The Mountaineer have always followed Brant closely and may have grabbed the upper hand. He plays with Team Scan on the AAU circuit, a team that recently sent Chris McCullough to the Orange. Kentucky had also been tracking him closely but a source is saying that the Mountaineers have overtaken the Wildcats. Things will become more clear time passes but it would appear that WVU will battle the Orange to the end."

RECRUIT: Thomas Bryant, PF, Huntington Prep (WV)
EXPERT: Eric Hampford, Analyst for Future150. Visit his site HERE.
DATE PICKED: November 6, 2013
REASONING: "Thomas was on hand for West Virginia's midnight madness in October with a slew of other big name Huntington Prep prospects, including 2015 wing Montaque Gill-Caesar, 2015 center Levi Cook (WVU commit) and 2016 small forward Miles Bridges, and from all accounts I've heard, he had a fantastic time. The Mountaineers have been very active in his recruitment, and are pushing hard for the talented 6'8" power forward. He fits their style of play very well, and in the span of one year, he has improved greatly. It would be an excellent fit for both parties, in my opinion, but there is no telling what other premier programs will start pushing hard for Bryant with how well he has been playing."

RECRUIT: JaWhaun Bentley, DE, DeMatha Catholic (MD)
EXPERT: Branden Roth, Contributor for InsideMDSports, our Maryland affiliate. Follow him on Twitter by clicking HERE.
DATE PREDICTED: November 15, 2013
REASONING: " I long thought Mr. Bentley would be a Terps Commit. But recently, it seems like the Terps have cooled their recruitment of him. Bentley announced his leaders of Purdue, Syracuse and WVU. I figure of those 3 offers, WVU is most attractive. He fits WVU's defensive scheme, Dematha has previous ties to WVU and WVU recruits this area better then Purdue or Cuse. Wisconsin is looming and I would change my prediction if they offer. But for now I think WVU is the favorite."

RECRUIT: Donte Thomas-Williams, RB, Hillside (NC)
EXPERT: Tom Loy, Recruiting Insider for 247Sports. Follow him on Twitter by clicking HERE.
DATE PREDICTED: October 11, 2013
REASONING: "Simply put - when I made my prediction for Thomas-Williams, I had him narrowed down to WVU and FSU. I don't see the Seminoles as a major threat and his interest in the Mountaineers has remained strong and consistent throughout the process. In the end, I see him heading to Morgantown to continue his future on the football field."
