- West Virginia has an all-time record of 8-5. The most recent game was last year's loss to LSU. ESPN's GameDay was in town and Geno Smith threw for a record 463 yards, but turnovers and poor special teams play resulted in a 47-21 loss for the Mountaineers.
- In 1944, Hall of Famer Ron "Fritz" Williams was born. In three seasons, Williams averaged 20.1 points, 6.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds. He passed away in 2004.
