Your morning look back, around the headlines and into the future.
On This Date:
- West Virginia has an all-time record of 5-4. The most memorable (with the embarrassing Colorado loss in 2008 coming in a close second) was likely the 2004 victory over Maryland. West Virginia had lost the previous four contests to the Terps before Rasheed Marshall hit Chris Henry for a touchdown and an overtime win in an ugly 19-16 game.
- In 1970, former center Mike Compton was born. The Virginia native was starting by his sophomore season (1990), earned All-Big East honors in 1991 and was a Consensus All-American as a senior. He was then drafted in the third round by Detroit and enjoyed an 11-year NFL career with the Lions, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was inducted into the WVU Hall of Fame in 2005.
