- In 1994, West Virginia played their earliest game in school history. Things did not end well for the Mountaineers, though, as eventual National Champion Nebraska stomped WVU 31-0 in a neutral site game at Giants Stadium.

- In 1959, former kicker Murat Tercan was born. The Morgantown native was the starting kicker for the 1981 squad, making all 23 extra points but only 7-of-15 field goal attempts.
