- In 1970, former quarterback Greg Jones was born. He spent his first two seasons as a backup to Major Harris before taking over the starting role in 1990. His three-year Mountaineer career ended with a total of 1,975 passing yards, 13 total touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
- In 2010, the Dunbar (DC) duo of Vance and Vernard Roberts committed to West Virginia. Vance, a cornerback, was considered the better prospect of the pair of twins, but it was Vernard who saw the field as a true freshman, rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns in six games. By the end of the first semester, though, both were declared academically ineligible and are no longer with the team.
