- In 2007, outfielder Justin Jenkins was named a Louisville Slugger All-American. A third-team selection, he batted .372 on the season and had just signed with the Cleveland Indians.

- In 2006, former basketball coach John Beilein was cited for disorderly conduct at the Pittsburgh International Airport after he allegedly refused to move his car from a no parking zone and berated a police officer.

- Only one former Mountaineer is registered as having being born on this date. In 1964, tight end Joe Zabkar was born. He suited up for WVU in 1981 and 1983 but never registered any statistics.
