On This Date:
- The basketball team has an all-time record of 19-19. In 1989, the Mountaineers were scorching from the field, making 40-of-61 shot attempts for a 65.6% rate - the sixth highest of all-time. That offensive display led to a 100-67 blowout of Penn State. Steve Berger led the way, making all seven of his attempts and all four threes to finish with 22 points.
- In 1985, former defensive back Ryan Mundy was born. A transfer from Michigan, Mundy only played one season, but started all 13 games and finished with 64 tackles, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. He was then drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft and has been a backup safety there ever since.
