- The football team has an all-time record of 3-0. In 1981, the Mountaineers dominated Florida, 26-6, in the Peach Bowl. Mickey Walczak had 110 total yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns. Darryl Talley, Steve Newberry and Defensive MVP Don Stemple led the WVU defense to a dominating performance where they had nine tackles for loss and forced five turnovers.
- The basketball team has an all-time record of 6-2. In 1965, West Virginia defeated North Carolina, 102-97, in a wild game in Raleigh. Carl Head and Ron "Fritz" Williams each had 25 points, while John Lesher added in 22 to bring WVU back in the final minutes for a come-from-behind victory.
