- The basketball team has an all-time record of 7-7. In 2008, the unranked Mountaineers dominated No. 15 Ohio State in Columbus, 76-48. Alex Ruoff led the team with 17 points while Da'Sean Butler (16), Truck Bryant (11) and Devin Ebanks (10) were all in double figures for West Virginia.
- In 2008, West Virginia defeated North Carolina, 31-30, in the Car Care Bowl. Pat White, in his final game in a Mountaineer uniform, threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns while also running for another 55 yards.
- In 2010, defensive lineman Shaq Rowell committed to West Virginia. Starting at nose tackle this season, the junior college transfer registered 36 tackles, two for loss.
