- The football team has an all-time record of 1-1. In 1987, West Virginia played Oklahoma State in the Sun Bowl and fell, 35-33. There were a lot of familiar names on the field that day. OSU was led by quarterback Mike Gundy and running backs Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders. For the Mountaineers, Major Harris rushed for 103 yards, while A.B. Brown added 167 and two scores. WVU scored a touchdown with just over a minute left, and completed the pass on the two-point conversion attempt, but tight end Keith Winn was stopped just short of the goal line.
- In 1948, the basketball team lost their one and only Christmas Day game, 80-66 to Bradley University. Fred Schaus was the leading scorer for the 'Eers, putting in 22 points.
