Morning Mashup - 12/19

Your morning look back, around the headlines and into the future.

On This Date:

- The football team has an all-time record of 0-1. In 1964, the Mountaineers traveled to Atlantic City to take on Utah in the Liberty Bowl. It wasn't pretty. The Utes picked off quarterback Allen McCune four times and defeated West Virginia, 32-6.

- The basketball team has an all-time record of 14-9. In 1998, the Mountaineers trailed Virginia Tech by four with very little time remaining. Elton Scott hit a three pointer with 11 seconds to bring them within one, then tipped the inbounds pass to a teammate for a steal. A couple offensive rebounds later, Marcus Goree put in the winning score, 69-68, with five seconds left. Scott finished with 20 points, Goree with 18 and 10 rebounds and Brooks Berry had 18 points and a block on the Hokies last second attempt.
