- West Virginia has an all-time record of 6-7-2. The most recent victory was a 51-13 win over Cincinnati in 1988. Led by the defense, the Mountaineers forced five turnovers - two fumble recoveries by Darrell Whitmore, one recovery by Dave Lockwood and interceptions by Alvoid Mays and Basil Proctor.
- In 1980, former defensive back Arthur Harrison was born. In a year and a half with the team, the New York native registered 66 tackles, three for loss and an interception.
