- The football team has an all-time record of 6-7. In 1974, West Virginia scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter to defeat Virginia Tech, 22-21. Artie Owens ran for 156 yards and a TD and Marcus Mauney returned an interception 99 yards for a score, but it was a blocked VT field goal with 11 seconds left that preserved the win.
- The basketball team has an all-time record of 3-1. In 2006 - in the Old Spice Classic, no less - WVU topped Montana 73-56. The 'Eers were led by Frank Young (21 points) and Joe Alexander (18).
