Morning Mashup - 10/31

Your morning look back, around the headlines and into the future.

On This Date:

- West Virginia has an all-time record of 7-8. In the start of three straight victories in the series, the Mountaineers topped Penn State 20-19 back in 1953. Quarterback Fred Wyant scored a pair of touchdowns, but it was a blocked punt by senior Tom Allman and a recovery from All-American Bruce Bosley that proved to be the winning score for WVU.

- In 1940, former player and long-time coach Gale Catlett was born. As a player, Catlett averaged 5.2 points and 3.5 rebounds, but it was the bench where he really shined. He coached 30 seasons at the highest level of basketball, 24 of them at West Virginia. During his time in Morgantown, he had a career record of 439-281. Add on his time in Cincinnati and he has 565 career wins.
