- West Virginia has an all-time record of 11-4-1. The most recent was a 20-6 victory over South Florida in 2010. With the offense sputtering most of the afternoon, the defense stepped up with 12 tackles for loss, five sacks and three interceptions to propel the Mountaineers to the win.

- In 1962, former fullback Ron Wolfley was born. In four years at West Virginia, he rushed for 1,329 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was drafted in the 1985 NFL Draft and made it to four Pro Bowls as a special teams standout.
