- West Virginia has an all-time record of 7-5. The most recent game may be the last win ever over Syracuse. In 2009, Noel Devine and Ryan Clarke each had a pair of touchdowns and the Mountaineers came away with a 34-13 victory.
- In 2002, former safety and return man Vaughn Rivers committed to West Virginia. As a defensive back, he finished his career with 66 tackles, three interceptions and three forced fumbles. On special teams, he finished with 1,558 total return yards and finds himself in the top 15 in both kick and punt return yards in West Virginia history.
