Running back DeShawn Coleman led the way for his Hickory (PA) team as Mountaineer commits across the country had big weekends on the gridiron.
Coleman was electric in his first round playoff game.
Coleman, a three-star prospect, started things off with a bang, sprinting past defenders for an 85-yard touchdown run to give his team an early 14-0 lead. Shortly after that, he followed with a 53-yard dash to paydirt, followed by a 21-yarder. In between stints in the end zone, he also dazzled with an electrifying 41-yard punt return down to the one, which you can see HERE.
By halftime, Coleman had five rushes for 186 yards and three touchdowns as Hickory (PA) cruised to victory and a spot in the semifinals.
In Florida, Immokalee (FL) won their season finale 19-0 and advanced to the state playoffs despite WVU commit Jacky Marcellus being injured for the third straight game. Champagnat Catholic (FL) and Isaac McDonald finished their season off strong, as the future Mountaineer caught two passes for 76 yards and a touchdown and recorded seven tackles, leading his team to a 22-21 victory.
In Texas, Tyler Tezeno helped pave the way for his Klein Collins (TX) team, winning 45-17 in their final regular season game and advancing to the Region playoffs this week against The Woodlands (TX).
A little closer to home, Elijah Wellman helped lead Spring Valley (WV) to a 31-7 victory. The bulky back ran 26 times for 160 yards and a touchdown. The Timberwolves will have a rematch with Cabell Midland (WV) in the state quarterfinals. In the opening weekend, the undefeated Knights contained Wellman (six carries, 12 yards) and emerged victorious, 21-13.
These weren't the only players in action, of course. For a full breakdown of how the future Mountaineers did not only this weekend but every weekend of the season, VIP members can click on the following link.
