Copeland Leaves Team

On Wednesday night, freshman receiver Travares Copeland made a series of tweets indicating that he was considering a transfer from West Virginia.

Copeland had 10 catches for 55 yards this season.

On Thursday afternoon, the school confirmed that was the plan with a short, simple statement.

West Virginia University football coach Dana Holgorsen has announced that freshman receiver Travares Copeland has left the team for personal reasons. Holgorsen will have no further comment.

The former four-star athlete was originally set to be redshirted this season before he was called upon to travel with the team to Texas Tech. In that game, the 5-foot-10, 178-pounder caught his first collegiate pass for five yards.

The following week, he was officially listed as the starter at an inside receiver position and caught three passes for ten yards against Kansas State.

After the bye week, it looked as if the shifty slot receiver was becoming a reliable target for quarterback Geno Smith - catching six passes for 40 yards in the double overtime loss to TCU.

Despite the seemingly positive turn of events, Copeland and the Mountaineers will now part ways.
