Over the course of the last few seasons, many Mountaineer fans have gotten to know the Big 3 of Geno Smith, Tavon Austin, and Stedman Bailey pretty well. However, as the trio takes the step from football as a hobby to football as an occupation, it’s time to give fellow fans an inside look at the next playmaker, Andrew Buie. Eersports was able to sit down and ask Buie some questions about life, both on and off the field.
Buie says he wants to be one of the top three rushers in the country this fall.
[bWhat goals have you set for yourself for the upcoming season (both personal and from a team standpoint)?[/b]
“From a team aspect, I want to win the BigXII, compete for a National Championship or BCS Bowl Game and be one of the most dominate offenses in the country. As an individual, I want to lead the BigXII in rushing, I want to be one of the Top 3 rushers in the country and just be able to help my team be in the best position to win at the end of the day.”
The offense was pretty dynamic last season, what do you need to ensure the offense remains one of the best in the country?
“We’ve got to make sure that we are able to run the ball this year and take some of the pressure off of our quarterbacks so that they don’t have to sit back there and rely on their gun slinging. We’ve got to make sure we are consistent with our run game and not have one week where we have a great run game and then the next week where the run game is absent.”
With an inexperienced QB and WR corps, do you feel like you need to be a leader of the offense, and what are some of the things you are doing to accomplish this?
“As a unit we are all growing together. Those of us that have been playing for multiple years need to keep the younger guys confidence up and let them know that it is ok to make mistakes and just keep going and try to get better every day.”
As everyone knows you’ve got a new position coach this year, what can you tell us about Coach Seider?
“He’s the man. He told us play off of your instincts and go off of the natural feeling of things. It allows us to play faster and make more plays.”
Fill in the blank
The faster player on the team is…
“Nana Kyeremeh. He got them jets, he can run.”
The best football player on the team is…
“I gotta go with myself on that one. I can’t give that one to anybody else.”
Of everyone on the team, who is playing in the NFL a few seasons from now?
You are about to square off in the Octagon/ring against one teammate, the guy you least want to face is...
It’s your last night in Morgantown, where are you going to eat and what are you going to get?
“I’d probably go to Red Lobster, get the ultimate feast. Maybe a little lobster and shrimp goin’ on, shrimp scampi, maybe chicken pasta, all that at the table for my last sitting.”
How long did it take you to get acclimated to the winter season in the North?
“Honestly, the cold never really…when you are outside and running around at practice your adrenaline keeps you warm, and the other time I have jackets on. So, it never really took me much time to get acclimated to the weather.”
If the NFL ceased to exist, what would your ideal career be?
“I want to be a coach that helps kids get into college.”
What is the one thing you want to tell Mountaineer Nation?
“I gotta go T.O. (Terrell Owens). Get ya popcorn ready.”
